Interesting list! I read Lucy last year too and am writing a piece kind of inspired by it (it’s about the recent trend of novels where minority women are nannies to rich white families).

I have a soft spot for autofiction about writers…but I'm definitely over identity-obsessed poetry and choice plots! Plus millennial fiction from Sally Rooney copycats that have relatively shallow commentary on class and capitalism…

For 2024, I'm hoping to read Naomi Klein's book and more Clarice Lispector as well. Hope you have a lovely reading year, and looking forward to your future book recs and thoughts!

Oh my gosh, this comment made me smile so much! Yes to the Sally Rooney copycats. There's like 10 new ones every season. I've had enough of those too!!!

I too want to read Naomi Klein. Her latest book Doppelganger especially has my interest. And yes to more Clarice, always always.

Can't wait to see what you're reading these days too <3

The way your trend list made me immediately trust your booklist!! I feel like these trends are scratching the surface and I crave something more intimate and complex and captivating and real! Gah!

I’m over romance with no elegance or imagination in the writing style. please don’t be so literal/surface level with every thought the protagonist expresses!!! also over thrillers with no meat. like give us something juicyyy, something interestingggg, something captivating :$. ty for sharing your thoughts ♥️
